News from Grossmont Healthcare District
The Dr. William C. Herrick Community Health Care Library, a public library specializing in healthcare information, located at 9001 Wakarusa St., La Mesa, has announced it has begun displaying six prints made from oil paintings by famed western artist and former El Cajon resident Olaf Wieghorst. The prints, on loan from the Olaf Wieghorst Museum and Western Heritage Center, feature three horses next to an old Cottonwood tree, horses drinking at a watering hole at the edge of a canyon, two cowboys studying a long-ago abandoned trail, two cowboys overlooking Salt River Canyon in Arizona, an adobe home and a Spanish caballero. Also on display is a portrait of Olaf Weighorst painted by Muriel Deleplane.
Admission to the library and Wieghorst exhibit are free. For library hours, visit www.herricklibrary.org. The public is invited to visit the library and admire the work of Weighorst, known as the “dean of Western art” who painted landscapes and lived in El Cajon for more than 40 years. His work has been collected by four U.S. presidents, including Reagan, Ford, Nixon and Eisenhower, along with such Hollywood celebrities as John Wayne, Gene Autry, Roy Rogers, Bing Crosby, Burt Reynolds and Clint Eastwood.
The Dr. William C. Herrick Community Health Care Library, a public library specializing in healthcare information, offers free health‑related resources, including an extensive selection of on-line information to consumers, and is open Tuesdays through Saturdays. The Grossmont Healthcare District (GHD), a public agency that supports health-related community programs and services in San Diego’s East County region, operates the library. Formed in 1952 to build and operate Grossmont Hospital, GHD serves as landlord of the hospital, including ownership of the property and buildings on behalf of local taxpayers. The District is governed by a five-member board of directors, each elected to four-year terms, who represent nearly 500,000 people residing within the District's 750 square miles in San Diego's East County. In 1991, the District leased the hospital's operation to Sharp HealthCare under a 30-year lease that runs through the year 2021. For more information about GHD, visit www.grossmonthealthcare.org.
