Grossmont Healthcare District supports First Responders Day

The Grossmont Healthcare District (GHD) board of directors has unanimously approved a resolution declaring its support of Sept. 11, 2006, as "First Responders Day" in commemoration of the fifth anniversary of terror attacks in New York City and Washington D.C., during which medical professionals demonstrated extraordinary skills and courage worthy of the respect and emulation of all Americans.

The resolution also recognizes, with appreciation and admiration, local First Responder heroes from the East County, consisting of emergency medical technicians, paramedics, firefighters and emergency room physicians and nurses, who provide life-saving and life enhancing skills both on the job and "on call" 24 hours each day, 365 days a year.

The Grossmont Healthcare District, formed in 1952 to build and operate Grossmont Hospital, supports various health-related community programs and services in San Diego's East County region. The District, which serves as landlord of Grossmont Hospital on behalf of local taxpayers, is governed by a five-member board of directors, each elected to four-year terms, who represent nearly 500,000 people residing within the District's 750 square miles in San Diego's East County.
