Grossmont Healthcare District announces 2010 Healthcare Heroes
The Grossmont Healthcare District (GHD), a public agency that supports many non-profit, health-related community programs and services in San Diego’s East County region, has honored 14 individuals with a 2010 Healthcare Hero Award. Now in its fourth year, GHD’s Healthcare Hero awards program recognizes and rewards front-line volunteers, caregivers and other individuals who help advance the delivery of health care and improve the quality of life for East County residents, said Gloria Chadwick, GHD 2010 board president. Recipients of a 2010 Healthcare Hero Award included:
-- Sharon Adams of Lakeside, a patient care volunteer with San Diego Hospice and The Institute for Palliative Medicine;
-- Dr. Garrett Bradt, a volunteer board member and currently the board secretary with Volunteers in Medicine (VIM), a nationwide, all-volunteer organization that brings together retired medical professionals and patients who do not have health insurance;
-- Erin Delaney, chairperson of the La Mesa Youth Advisory Commission, which is an advisory body to the La Mesa City Council;
-- Marge Dyke, an energetic 89-year-old volunteer with Sharp HospiceCare, which provides comprehensive end-of-life care and compassionate support for people with a life-limiting illness;
-- Dr. Raymond Fink, a physical volunteer with Project Access San Diego, a program of the San Diego County Medical Society Foundation that provides local residents with access to medical specialists;
-- Meshva Jariwala, a junior volunteer with the Sharp Grossmont Hospital Junior Volunteer Program;
-- Andrea Holmberg, manager of the Sharp Grossmont Hospital Senior Resource Center;
-- Arnell and Jolee Garcia, a husband-and-wife volunteer team with The Burn Institute’s Camp Beyond the Scars, an overnight mountain retreat for burn-injured children, ages 5 to 17;
-- The Haiti Medical Relief Team consisting of a group of volunteer physicians from Sharp Grossmont Hospital who traveled to Haiti to assist earthquake victims, including Dr. Yuri Gelland (Anesthesiology), Dr. Kaveh Bagheri (Pulmonary Medicine), Dr. Thomas Moyad (Orthopedic Surgery), Dr. Phillip Dickinson (General Surgery) and Dr. Jesse Yi (Anesthesiology).
