Grossmont Healthcare District awarded $94,500 in scholarships to healthcare scholars from 21 high schools

The Grossmont Healthcare District (GHD) awarded $94,500 in scholarships to 42 high school seniors who have expressed interest in a career as a healthcare professional.

The scholarships were presented at the GHD board meeting on Friday, March 15. The students from 21 local high schools in the East Region were selected by school administrators for their academic excellence, outstanding citizenship and a desire to serve in the healthcare field. Students from each high school will receive up to $3,000 at the end of their first successfully-completed semester of college.

“We applaud these students who have demonstrated great potential in leading the next generation and shaping the future of healthcare,” said Randy Lenac, board president. “It’s important for us to invest in America’s youth and encourage these young adults as they continue their studies in the healthcare field with the goal of serving in the workforce of tomorrow.”

The students include (name of their high school follows the students’ names in parenthesis): Lauren Mansy, Zoe Nordling (Christian); Ashley Delara, Punalei Mendoza (Diego Valley East Charter); Farah Haleem, Fadi Al Banaa (El Cajon Valley); Devin Volden, Isabel Smith (El Capitan); Holly Martin, Nicole Madden (Foothills Christian); Sydney Jones, Maddison Hall (Granite Hills); Kimberly Sokolnicki, Helen Yaqouna (Grossmont); Farah Farouq, Angelina Jajo (Grossmont Middle College); Jocelyn Wilmore, Vyvy Au (Helix Charter); Alexa Flores, Alexa (Lex) Tellez Cabrera (IDEA Center High); Teagan Hill, Maryam Benyamin (Innovation High); Bridget Braden, Isabelle Coppersmith (Liberty Charter); Eric Matthew Ramos, Mariah Ortiz (Monte Vista); Thao Do, Suleman Mahabat (Mount Miguel); Manuel Mercado, Jennifer Regalado Lara (Mountain Empire); Sophie Green, Chris Isip (Patrick Henry); Scarlett Steele, Cadeyn Quitevis (River Valley Charter); Queena Rattanavong, Jessica Cooper (Santana); Wesam Kanim, Cade Kanzius (Steele Canyon Charter); Karen Ibrahim, Anyar Victor (Valhalla); Lizbeth Hoffman, Victoria Carrico (West Hills).

GHD has recognized local high school students interested in a healthcare career with scholarship grants since 1999. Over the years, hundreds of local high school students have received individual scholarships totaling more than $1 million.
