Health Care Library’s ‘Wellness Wednesday’ Meeting will Discuss Resources and Tools for Family Caregivers on Feb. 25

The Grossmont Healthcare District’s Dr. William C. Herrick Community Health Care Library, 9001 Wakarusa St. in La Mesa, will host a free program on “Resources and Tools for Family Caregivers” from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 25. The program is part of the library’s “Wellness Wednesday” series, normally held on the fourth Wednesday of the month.

A growing number of Americans are providing care for an older adult, ranging from accessing care, socialization, finances and transportation to meals and other services. Caregivers often include relatives and friends who may not realize that community resources are available to help them, including support groups, respite care and classes that teach them how to cope and care for themselves while caring for others.

Speaking at the Herrick Library will be Andrea Holmberg, program coordinator with the Sharp Grossmont Hospital Senior Resource Center. A 2010 recipient of a Healthcare Hero Award from the Grossmont Healthcare District, Holmberg has been involved with senior programs Sharp Grossmont Hospital and throughout the East County community for the past two decades. She is regarded today as an expert in caregiver issues with a thorough knowledge of senior services throughout San Diego County. She is an active member of the Caregiver Coalition of San Diego.

The Herrick Library, which opened in 2002, is a consumer health public library specializing in health research information, accessible both on-site and via the Internet. The library is operated by the Grossmont Healthcare District, a public agency that supports health-related community programs and services in San Diego’s East County.
