How do we maintain a healthy brain? During this presentation we will discuss what brain health is, modifiable risk factors impacting brain health, the impact social isolation and loneliness can have on dementia risk, and the brain health intervention: Memory Cafes. Memory Cafes combat social isolation and loneliness while also providing opportunities for various other types of stimulation/activity that can preserve and promote brain health. Come learn more about how to maintain a healthy brain and see if the new Memory Café at GHD starting in July 2024 is something you’d like to try.

Speaker: A Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Shannon Patel has served in many roles at the George G. Glenner Alzheimer’s Family Centers, Inc., including Program Director at Town Square®- Chula Vista Adult Day Health Care Program and her current roles of Memory Cafe Director and GLENNERCARE™ Social Worker. Shannon previously worked as an activity leader and then social worker in a skilled nursing facility. A graduate of San Diego State University’s Master of Social Work program with over 10 years of experience in geriatric care, Shannon feels working with older adults, and especially those affected by Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias is her calling and loves to help preserve and increase the quality of life for this population through social engagement, family caregiver education, and connection to community resources.
