Event Recap: Fall Open House

Our Fall Open House on November 2nd, 2022 – rain or shine, power or no power – was quite a memorable one.

For those in attendance, it really encompassed the resilience of the District’s 70 years of history in East County and the 20th anniversary of the Herrick Community Health Care Library.

More than 100 community partners, library patrons, nonprofit and healthcare employees, East County residents, as well as local elected officials, gathered for the event.

Senator Brian Jones, the GHD Board of Directors & CEO Christian Wallis

Guests arrived as an unexpected heavy rain drenched San Diego and then plans shifted again due to a neighborhood power outage. It was an eventful day, to say the least. But with people’s positive spirits and a great turnout, it was a successful event that allowed attendees to connect and reconnect with one another.

During the morning program, Senator Brian Jones was in attendance and presented a resolution commemorating the district’s 70th anniversary. County Supervisor Joel Anderson’s office presented a proclamation declaring November 2nd  “Grossmont Healthcare District Day” in San Diego County. And Assemblymember Dr. Akilah Weber’s office and Santee City Council’s Ronn Hall presented certificates of recognition for the long-standing history of the Grossmont Healthcare District and the library.

One of our grantees, Vista Hill, also gave the District a special shoutout creating signs thanking the team for funding their ParentCare Dual Diagnosis program. Vista Hill’s ParentCare Recovery Center in La Mesa serves pregnant and parenting mothers in East County who are struggling with substance use disorder.
